Stalingrad / Dogs Do You Want to Live Forever
Frank Wisbar | West Germany | 1959 | 97 minutes
![]() | The winter of 1942/43 - despite heavy losses, Hitler’s Wehrmacht troops have conquered Stalingrad. While many of the ordinary soldiers realize that the war is senseless and that there can never be a final victory, the officers try to encourage their men to carry on. Still there is a young lieutenant who increasingly distrusts the Nazi ideology. Over and above the great battle scenes, this is the story of a man struggling with the very concept of war. This is the film that the modern Stalingrad was based upon and features the seamless integration of original battle footage.
