Our next screenings

Friday 8 April at the IFE – our last IFE screening!

Monsieur Klein
  • Joseph Losey | 1976 | 2h03 | French with English subtitles

In this Kafkaesque tale set in 1942 in occupied Paris, Robert Klein is a prosperous art dealer who finds himself caught in an existential mystery when he is confused with a Jewish man of the same name who has been targetted by the Nazis.

“Mr Klein – Joseph Losey’s lost classic re-emerges. A masterpiece of identity crisis – a mesmeric cat-and-mouse played out in dreadful, ever-lengthening shadows.” (Danny Leigh, Financial Times)

“A slow-burning French thriller… Suffused not only with history, but also with echoes of Kafka, Dostoyevsky and the clipped paranoia of [director] Losey’s collaborations with Harold Pinter.” (The New York Times)

“Moody, elegantly disturbing and impeccably made by a master director, this story of blurred identities and casual immorality in German-occupied Paris benefits from what might be the best performance of star Alain Delon’s long career as well as potent cameos by Jeanne Moreau, Michel Lonsdale and Juliet Berto.” (Kenneth Kuran – Los Angeles Times)
