Blancanieves (Snow White)

SCREENING ON 11/12/2022 4:30 pm

Blancanieves is a gorgeous homage to the Golden Age of Europe’s silent cinema. It’s an intoxicating film that transforms the Snow White fairy tale into a sweepingly romantic vision of 1920s Spain (populated by matadors, black lace, flamenco dancers and carnivalesque atmosphere) where a young woman (Macarena García) escapes from her wicked stepmother (Maribel Verdú) to find fame as a matador.

Blancanieves won ten Goya Awards, including Best Film, Best New Actress, Best Actress, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography.

“Smartly written and beautiful to behold, Blancanieves uses its classic source material to offer a dark tale, delightfully told.” (Rotten Tomatoes)

“Berger is a master of the moving image, and along with supremely brilliant editing from Fernando Franco has created one of the most indelibly memorable films of the past several years. A gorgeous and deeply affecting piece of art. Highly recommended.” (Blu-ray.com)
