Guild 40th Anniversary Season: 1969-1970

THE SEASON. The Edinburgh Film Guild celebrated its 40th Anniversary during its 1969-1970 season. All screenings took place in the Guild Cinema at ‘Film House’, 3 Randolph Crescent, Edinburgh, EH3 7JT

THE SCREENINGS took place on Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 2: 30 p.m., 6.00 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.

THE FILMS were divided into Series A or B.

SERIES ‘A’: FAIL SAFE (Sidney Lumet, U.S.A.); LE DEPART (Jerzy Skolinowski, Belgium); KWAIDAN WOMAN OF THE SNOWS (Masaki Kobayashi, Japan); NEVER STRIKE A WOMAN EVEN WITH A FLOWER (Zdenek Podskalsky, Czechoslovakia); LILITH (Robert Rossen, U.S.A.); WHO SAW HIM DIE (Jan Troell, Sweden); LA VIE A L’ENVERS (Alain Jessna, France); A FUNNY TH!NG HAPPENED ON
THE WAY TO THE FORUM (Richard Lester, Gt. Britain).

SERIES ‘B’: HUNGER (Henning Carlsen, Denmark); THE COMEDY OF TERRORS (Jacques Tourneur, U.S.A.); PEARLS OF THE DEEP (Various Directors, Czechoslovakia); NINE DAYS OF ONE YEAR (Mikhail Romm, U.S.S.R.); HIGH AND LOW (Akira Kurosawa, Japan; RONDO (Zvonimir Berkovic, Yugoslavia); CARTOUCHE (Philippe de Broca, France/ltaly); SECONDS (John Frankenheimer, U.S.A.)

ADDITIONAL FILM SERIES: “This year the Guild continues the practice of holding additional series of midweek performances devoted to special aspects of film and film usage.” HISTORICAL: A series of six programmes of films carefully selected to illustrate the development of cinema. TRAVEL: A series of six programmes, each devoted to a different part of the world. SHAKESPEARE: A series of six programmes arranged in collaboration with Clive Perry of the Royal Lyceum Theatre. WILDLIFE: A series of six programmes arranged and introduced by Christopher Mylne. ARCHITECTURE: A series of six programmes illustrating various aspects of the subject.

FACILITIES: “In addition to the choice of two series of outstanding films, the Guild offers to members the facilities of the Club with a cocktail bar, snack bar and comfortable premises with a wide range of social activities. Members may avail themselves of the excellent lunches which are served daily from Monday to Saturday.”
