The Edinburgh Film Guild and Education
Established by luminaries of Scottish film and film studies, the Guild has had a strong film education component since its inception.
The Guild has supported many educational initiatives over the years. We have held innumerable mini-seasons, introduced by experts and followed by post-film discussions. We have also held or facilitated a wide range of short courses. These have included many of the University of Edinburgh’s Film and Media in-person short courses, some of which are taught by Guild members.
Many of these courses were held in the Guild Cinema, which was located within the Filmhouse building. The abrupt closure of Filmhouse in 2022 has meant that we are currently unable to host courses. However, some Guild members continue to teach University of Edinburgh Film and Media Short Courses. We have also compiled ‘Follow-up’ web pages on each of the films screened in our recent French Cinema Seasons so that audience members would have the opportunity to learn more about the directors and films. These are compiled below.
